Several months before the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto celebrated their 25th anniversary, they asked me to write a song to commemorate the occasion. After a solid month of writing—and rewriting—the lyrics, I completed A PLACE WHERE I BELONG—a song based on my experiences of learning to celebrate and honour who I am, and finding a supportive community to do it in. For anyone who’s searching for, or has found, what really matters in life, this is a song you’ll relate to. Not surprisingly, it’s become one of the most performed of my works, sung at weddings, funerals and religious services.
